What to consider when choosing a studio to fit your needs...
Attention and Correction.
Solid training must include individualized attention. It requires the instructor to be aware of each of the student's strengths and weaknesses. Above the age of three, our students receive many verbal and physical adjustments to ensure we are optimizing their time and your investment.
Developmental Differences.
There is a large developmental divide among the youngest dancers. A young 3 year old has very different gross motor ability and attention span than a 5 year old. Separating classes for the 3's, 4's and 5's allows us to set a curriculum that is appropriate for each level of development.
Diversity of Styles.
Dance today is comprised of a host of styles. It is in a dancers best interest to experiment with multiple genres. This helps the dancer identify their strengths, cater to their personal preferences and to explore a range of motion. If the dancer chooses to take a professional track, it allows them to become more "hirable". We offer Preschool combo classes and Classic Combo classes for our young students to begin the process of exploration.
Importance of Authenticity of Styles.
When a dancer invests in cross training, it is imperative that all of the styles they are taking are current and authentic. Dance evolves quickly and it takes effort to stay current. It is crucial that their class is being taught by an instructor that is versed and proficient at the genre. We ensure that our instructors are still actively engaged in the process of learning and bring our students the very latest in what is evolving.
Professional Performance Experience.
Our recitals serve multiple purposes. In addition to allowing the dancers to showcase their progress, we utilize the opportunity to teach them what is expected in a professional level show. They learn how to conduct themselves backstage and the wings. They learn how to present themselves on and off stage. They learn what is expected of them for hair, makeup and costuming to achieve a polished performance look. They learn how to make appropriate entrances and exits. Our goal is for our dancers to enjoy a positive and productive experience and we go the extra mile to make that happen. In addition, we value all of our dancers and award the entire cast with recital trophies for their efforts.
Studio Personality.
Every dance studio has a different environment and "personality". It is important for parents to determine the environment that best fits both you and your dancer. Some studios are large and impersonal, where students tend to get lost in a crowd. Some are disorganized, leaving both parents and students confused and uninformed. At CDC, we take great pride in our community-based environment and prioritize personalization and communication. The Artistic Director is extremely accessible and available to answer all questions regarding your child's dance education.
